The state had launched a mega social housing mission to provide quality housing to families living in the hutments. CC Wandgi, project director Chief Minister's Rural Housing Mission said that nearly 6,000 poors living in kutcha houses will get a single storey earthquake-resistant pucca house free of cost by December 2023. A cost of Rs. 211.20 crore is given for this project. Also, this five-year long project will resolve the issue of homelessness among the poor in Sikkim on a permanent basis. He also said that each of these dwelling units will be capacious and will have a RCC-structure of two bedrooms, a kitchen-cum-dining room, a toilet and a verandah in front portion that will measure upto an area of 605 sq.ft. each.
